I'm a Proud Veteran! Thoughts on Veterans Day--and the Number 11!

I'm proud to be a Veteran and serving Veterans as a Real Estate Professional is a passion!

A Little Bit About Me

After high school, I attended Marine Recruitment Training, followed by the School of Infantry in Camp Pendleton where I was promoted to lance corporal. I soon deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 9.1 and .2 as a team leader and was promoted to Corporal on January 1, 2010.

I went to a Squad Leader course in North Carolina and I was promoted to Sergeant in 2012 and volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan. He was unable to deploy due to military funding, so I decided to move to Sonoma County and start a life with Melissa--who was ironically born on Veterans Day herself! We were married on December 28, 2012. In 2013 I served in the Georgian Deployment Program and was selected to be part of the instructor cadre. I later served in Germany and Africa and Norway.

I have been honored to serve my country and during the course of my service, I have blessed to receive medals including a Navy Commendation Medal, three Navy Achievement Medals, two Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medals, a Volunteer Service Medal, and 5 Certifications of Commendation. Prior to leaving the Republic of Georgia, I was given the third-highest medal a military serviceman can get for their country.

Let's Talk About Veterans Day On November 11, 1921, on a quiet hillside in Arlington National Cemetery, an unknown World War I American soldier was laid to rest in a poignant cemetery honoring the fallen. This location has since become a point of reverence for American Veterans.

Interestingly, similar burials occurred earlier in places of honor in England (Westminster Abbey) and France (Arc de Triomphe) as an unknown soldier from World War I was laid to rest. The date of these events? November 11.

Why makes November 11 such a significant date for Veterans?

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, World War I was officially declared over. Soldiers laid down their weapons. Joy and relief were felt around the world!

And Veterans Day was born!

This week, throughout the country, Veterans will be honored on November 11 with events kicking off at—11:00 am!

Take the opportunity to honor Veterans in your own neighborhood. Check out Sonoma County Veterans Day events. If you are in SoCal, you can check out these events.
